Trey started CrossFit in 2018 while on winter break from attending Samford University at an affiliate in his hometown outside Atlanta Georgia. He grew up playing all different types of sports from Baseball to Basketball to Lacrosse. Throughout college he spent most of his time running running and weightlifting. In 2019 Trey joined Crossfit Mudtown and enjoys having the opportunity to be competitively active through fitness while being apart of an amazing community! He is currently a full time student at Samford University pursuing his Masters degree in Accounting. While Trey is not studying or at the gym he enjoys cooking, cycling, and spending time outdoors!
After growing up playing sports most of his life, Grant started CrossFit in 2013 while attending the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Through his passion of helping others, Grant took the CrossFit Level 1 course in 2018. He coached for 2 years before joining CrossFit Mudtown. He believes CrossFit is a great catalyst for physical as well as mental toughness. Grant currently works at Southern Nuclear Operating Company in Supply Chain. When he is not at the gym, he loves biking with his wife and two dogs, going to concerts, and teaching a 5th grade bible study.
Rebecca started CrossFit in her hometown of Muscle Shoals, AL in 2013 while she was on summer break from attending the University of Alabama. She played tennis all through high school, so she instantly loved the competition and community aspect that CrossFit offered. She and her husband, Cole, found the perfect home gym in Tuscaloosa that resulted in lifelong friends and a passion for CrossFit that led them to Mudtown shortly after they moved to Birmingham in 2016. CrossFit Mudtown has given her physical and mental strength, confidence, and fantastic friendships over the past few years. She is so excited to give back to this amazing community through coaching. She currently works as a senior accountant for B.L. Harbert International and has a dog (Daisy) and a cat (Opie).
Cara began her CrossFit journey in 2015 when a CrossFit box opened in her hometown outside of Pittsburgh, PA. Throughout her life, Cara tried many different activities, Tae Kwon Do being one of her favorites. The community, discipline and perseverance found in the dojang was hard to come by until Cara found herself high-fiving smiling, sweaty people after her first WOD. That is when she knew that CrossFit was a part of her life for the long run. It even went as far as influencing Cara to apply and accept a chair at Samford University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program. She now lives in Avondale, AL with her husband, John Mark, and continues to be empowered by the ever-lasting progress CrossFit has to offer.
Brent competed in sports for a majority of his early life, primarily focusing on track and field. When his running days were over, he decided to explore the world of bodybuilding. Missing the competitive nature of sports, he found himself in a constant cycle of fluctuating interest and consistency. In his senior year of college, that cycle was broken when he was offered free CrossFit classes in exchange for painting a mural for what would become his first CrossFit box. Being enticed by the competition and constant physical and mental challenges, Brent loved it from the first class. Going on 8 years later, Brent has now been a member of multiple gyms (4 years of which have been at CrossFit Mudtown), and received his CrossFit Level 1 certificate in May of 2019. In addition to living a healthier, more balanced life, CrossFit has also provided a outlet for blending Brent’s non-fitness related passions, cooking and photography!
Growing up, Josh’s life revolved around sports. From soccer to basketball to swimming to football, he was always “in season” growing up. The main sport for Josh was baseball and he went on to play in college. After deciding to hang up the cleats and focus on school, Josh walked on to Oregon State’s rowing team because he missed the daily life of a collegiate athlete. It was in college that he got his first taste of CrossFit. During one winter break Josh decided to buy a Groupon to a local CrossFit gym. The first workout he remembers was bench press and then Grace. At the end of the workout, the coach said, “So that’s CrossFit… let me know if it’s something you want to do every day for the rest of your life.” Josh chose CrossFit as his fitness routine because of the constant variation, competitive aspect and community atmosphere. CrossFit allows for Josh to express his competitive nature in a fun and healthy way and has introduced him to some of his best friends and colleagues.
Jacki has always been active, running track and cross country in her youth and in college. She holds a state record for the 100 yard dash in Pennsylvania. She discovered CrossFit 15 years ago and knew right away it was for her. It was something after scholastic sports that could fulfill her need to compete and push herself. In 2006 she attended her first CrossFit Level 1 certification and began coaching at her gym in Pittsburgh. Over the years, she’s moved across the country with her husband Danny and two girls, Kaidyn and Kinsley, but has always found herself at home in a CrossFit gym. Showing her kids that being strong and confident is one of her top priorities. She has competed and trained with some of the top athletes, and has been coached by some of the best coaches out there. In 2015, Jacki and Danny along with their brother and sister-in-law Billy and Lainey, fulfilled their dream of opening their own gym and CrossFit Mudtown began. They added their son, Nash, to the family in 2016 and Jacki continued to CrossFit through out her pregnancy. As an athlete, Jacki loves competing and pushing her body to new limits. Coaching comes natural and is Jacki’s biggest passion. She loves to help people push themselves farther than they ever thought possible.
Danny has been active in CrossFit since 2007 as an athlete, coach, and within his full-time profession. Originally born in Pittsburgh, PA, Danny spent most of his years growing up in Plymouth, MN, and attended Benilde-St. Margarets High School where he was a 3 sport athlete for all 4 years. After graduation he attended Bemidji State University where he was a 3 year letter winner in football, who won their first conference championship in 53 years during his senior season. After college he began working in the event management field and was introduced to CrossFit in 2007. While moving around for work, Danny met his wife Jacki at CrossFit Pittsburgh where they both coached and worked out. After living in Pittsburgh for 2 years, Jacki and Danny moved to Omaha, NE, for 3 years and then to Birmingham, AL, in June of 2014. They have two wonderful daughters, Kaidyn and Kinsley and son, Nash.
While studying Health and Exercise Science at the University of the Pacific, Melanie was a 4 year starter for the Tigers’ NCAA D1 softball team. It was during her collegiate career that she developed a passion for strength and conditioning.
Following graduation in 2016, she moved from northern California to Birmingham with her boyfriend, now husband. After just one day in the Ham, they found themselves at our gym and Melanie became a member of a CrossFit gym for the first time. She quickly learned that CrossFit filled the void of competitive sports and found the supportive atmosphere in our box comparable to being on a team.
Although their plan was to only stay for the year, Melanie was accepted into UAB’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program as part of the Class of 2020. She aspires to merge her two passions (PT and CrossFit), by rehabbing, training and educating athletes.
Located in the heart of Cahaba Heights (right behind The Summit shopping center) CrossFit Mudtown is a 3,800 square foot space split between two levels. The lower level is our fitness facility where we conduct all group classes. Upstairs houses reception, restrooms, childcare room and an area for members to store their gym gear. We also have space upstairs for members to warm-up or work on skills and mobility. We strive for cleanliness and simplicity.
